To Dream in Transience

To dream in Transience initially takes inspiration from the 1975 ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ Film directed by Peter Weir. Based on an all girls private school excursion that results in students disappearing, my attraction towards the film was due to the idea that the disappearance of the school girls was purely a dream, as I began to observe the film with the perspective that the characters were camouflaged. From this, I aimed to look into Victorian-Edwardian Inspired fashion as well as florals as the film was highly involved with nature and escapism. Soft focus filters and darker colour schemes are incorporated to display the poisonous addiction within the act of escapism. Inspirations have also been derived from the recent V&A exhibition ‘Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk’; the cross over between eras and cultures further amplify the transient-dream like notion of the pre-collection.
